Captain's Log
Extracts from the log - Easter weekend away April 2006. Port Jackson to Jervis Bay.
13th April 2006
1800 - Last minute stowing. Passengers arriving being shown their berth.
1900 - Dinner served with an air of excitement and introductions being made.
2030 - Muster on the poop. Everybody given their watch. Safety drills conducted.
2100 - Underway motoring down the harbour. The crew making ready the ship preparing sail.
2200 - Passing south head & steering a SE course with the main for sail and top sails set. The wind a moderate breeze from the north with a cloudy sky. We break into watches.
2400 - The mate and master both still on watch as it is such good sailing.
14th April
0400 - Wind has backed to the west and then died away. Now under motor passing the Royal National Park. A full moon setting & dawn approaching.
0800 - Wind light airs from the SW. Breakfast has been served. A relaxed sleepy mood prevails on the ship as we motor sail along the coast.
1200 - A light ripple on the sea. The breeze looks to be setting in. We start setting sail.
1300 - Passing Sir John Young Bank's
1600 - Wind NNE Clear Skies.
2400 - All well onboard, moderate NW wind in 13m of water with 2 1/2 cables out.
15th April
0400 - SW Change payed out more cable. All's well ship holding.
0730 - Breakfast served.
0800 - All hands on deck. Assigned cleaning duties. Decks scrubbed, heads cleaned and vessel made ready for sea.
0900 - Wind SW force 5-6. Weighed anchor. Begun tacking & exploring Jervis Bay. Wind SSW eased to force 4. Passing out to sea through entrance Jervis Bay.
1230 - Lunch served. Trimming sails. Taking turns on lookout & tricks on the wheel.
1500 - Re-entered Jarvis Bay & set a course for the Town of Huskisson.
1700 - Anchored in 10m of water off the town of Huskisson. Lines cast out.
1900 - A feast is served of lamb, vegetables, salads, desert and wine. A feeling of camaraderie and familiarity between everybody is present & we all laugh about the past day and night experiences.
16th April
0700 - A few people on the deck enjoying the peace of the day. Chef preparing a sunday breakfast.
Bacon and eggs with French toast, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, fruit salad and tea and coffee and the peace of the morning.
1400 - Wind SW 2mn east pt perpendicular.
1500 - In a confused backwash course NE. Several people sick.
2100 - Posn. 34 degrees L, 35-151 degrees 7 minutes East. Large swell. Winds variable, course N by E.
Abeam Port Kembla, light northerly winds. Vessel rolling gently as we motor sail along.
17th April
0600 - Sunrise. 10mn from Port Jackson entrance.
0900 - Anchored Camp Cove for Breakfast & a swim.
1100 - Weighed Anchor.
1230 - Secured Campbell's Cove. All exhausted by all feeling contented and at ease after our voyage.
